Orca's a Finalist in the Waste Innovation & Recycling Awards

We wanted to share our news with you.

Orca Civil is a finalist in the Innovation Category of this year’s Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards. Orca is recognised for developing innovative manufacturing processes to utilise recycled glass in the production of polymer concrete vehicle safety separators. These modular traffic management solutions are designed to increase road safety for motorists, cyclists and public transport, including tramways, and are in use throughout major cities in Australia.

Orca is an Australian manufacturer of polymer concrete construction and infrastructure products who have developed a process to replace sand as a quarried mineral as the key raw material in polymer concrete, to a recycled substitute. The significance of using recycled glass leverages Australia’s ongoing issue with the disposal of waste glass, with the National Waste Account estimating over 475 kilotons going into landfill, per annum.

Orca is recognised for a unique manufacturing process that allows all types of waste glass to be utilised. The product range includes bike lane separators and modular components to delineate bus lanes, tramways and taxi lanes. Each product uses an extremely high percentage of recycled glass, with up to 80% of the dry components of Orca’s polymer concrete consisting of recycled glass.

The Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards offer an opportunity to acknowledge the work being done across all levels of the waste recovery sector and celebrate outstanding achievement in this sector. Winners will be announced on 26th October 2022.
